All bowling and tennis matches set down for to-day were postponed on acoount of the unfavourable weather. A Press Association telegram from Wellington states that the delay in shipping produce to England through the strike has naturally caused considerable uneasiness to dairy farmers, who were looking forward to their monthly cheques on account of milk The '' Dairyman '' now states that, should no unforeseen circumstances arise before Monday, bills of lading covering the Athenic's shipment will be in the hands of the dairy companies' bankers on that date, and cheques will be paid an the twentieth as usual. Tbo shipment is expected to amount to 55,000 boxes of butter and 24,000 crates of cheese. This is the largest amount of cheese ever carried in one bottom from any port in New Zealand and it is rather remarkable, says the " Dairyman," that it should be shipped in tho middle of the great strike. A Press Association telegram from Auckland states that the hearing of a charge of manslaughter against George Hopkins was concluded in the Police Court yesterday. Hopkins was the driver of a motor-car which knocked down and fatally injured Thomas Olemond Thorpe, on Mangero Road, on October 19. After evidence had been given by several persons who witnessed the accident, Detective Scott went into the bos. He stated that when the accused was arrested he said he had given £IOO, which he had borrowed, to the deceased lad's parents. Witness understood that this gift was made because the accused was sorry for the lad, not because he admitted any liability. Mr Cutten, S.M., said that it was one of those unfortunate cases over which ho had no jurisdiction. Accused was, therefore, committed to the Supreme Court for trial. Bail was allowed in his own surety of £IOO aad in one other of a like amount.
