NEW BRIGHTON NOTES.

THE SPORTS GROUND. SHEDS THAT GREW IN THE NIGHT. Unavoidable circumstances have necessitated a postponement of tho sports ground concert arranged for Wednesday, November 19. Tho now date has not yet been fixed, but a full advertisement will bo given in this connection during the coming week. Tho contractor has his gangs in full swing. The shed building nuisance wa.s the subject of commont from members of tho Now Brighton Borough Council on Monday evening last. Notwithstanding the existence of a. by-law necessitating tho obtaining of a permit, Councillors deplored tho poor financial return for tho number of small holdings erected. Like mushrooms they grow in a night, and ero tho full light of tho day dawns cover themselves with the care and weather-worn appearance of age.

North Brighton progresses. Building has boon active for somo time, and there appears to be no slackening of activity. Some twelve buildings are in course of erection, and denizens of the north aro enthusiastic. A scheme is on hand for tho erection of a bathing shelter and a drinking-fountain at the beach end of tho tram lino. Their ambition* are growing. They begin to speak of a band rotunda.

Mrs Bishop, wife of Mr G. W. Bishop, head schoolmaster of the New Brighton School, died yesterday at ono o'clock. Th« profoundest regret is felt at tills los* to tho district. Prior to her illness, which was of considerable, duration. Mrs Bishop was act-ire in matters relating to tho school, church and other local interests, and in these connections had a large circle of friends and admirers. Tho sympathy of the whole of New Brighton is with Mr Bishop and family in their loss.
