WARDER ATTACKED.

DARING GAOLBREAKERS. [Pzr Press Association.] INVERCARGILL, November 12. Two prisoners, W. G. Wheeler and A. E. M'Queen, were charged to-day with violently assaulting a warder named Filler, with intent to escape. M'Queen is serving seven years for attempted rape, and an additional eighteen months for a previous escKtv.-. _ The medical evidence showed that the warder had sustained two sc-nip wounds, with many bruises, and much laceration, the bono being exposed. He was not yet fit to resume duty. The injuries were inflicted with a tin taper canister filled with lead.

Wheeler pleaded not guilty and was committed for trial. M'Queen was committed for sentence.
