In the match against the M.C.C, Western Provinces scored 376 (Lewis 151). Marylebone made 199 (Hobbs 72). and following on made 330 (Hobbs 80 f«nd Henrne 83). The match was drawn. NEW ZEALAND COUNCIL. A. meeting of the Management Committee of the New Zealand Cricket Council was held yesterday ; present— Messrs 6. F. Francis (chairman), J. 11. Williams, A. T. Donnelly. S. A. Orchard, E. J. Austin and F. C. Raphael (honorary secretary). In connection with the Selection Committee's recommendation of appointing a fourteenth man for the New Zealand team, the honorary secretary reported that he had written to the Auckland, Wellington, Canterbury and Otago Associations, stating that if each of those Associations vould give a further guarantee of £lo the recommendation of the Selection Committee would be agreed to. The Council has decided to oruarantee £ls. Replies wore received from the Canterbury Cricket Association agreeing to give the extra guarantee asked for. but the Auckland. Wellington and Otago Associations wrote that they were not in a position to make any further guarantee towards the expense of sending a team to Australia. It was resolved that the Council regret, that it is not in a position '4J send a fourteenth man as recommended by the Selection Committee

The' secretary of the Auckland Cricket Association wrote accepting (he dates for the Auckland-Wellington match, namely, December 2,5, 26 and ?7, but as it was impossible for the Auckland Association to f.end a team awij before Christmas he suggested that the Auckland-Canterbury dates be changed to January 1, 2 and 3. The honorary secretary reported that these were the dates fixed for the Can-terbury-Wellington match. It was resolved that the Auckland Association be informed that the Council only suggested the dates in accordance with the Auckland Association's proposal, and recommended that the. Auckland Association be asked to communicate direct with the Canterbury Association and mutually agree as to dates. The secretary of the Christchurch Boys' High Sochool wrote, stating that his school had received a challenge from Christ's College for the Heathcote Williams Challenge Shield. The dates for the match have been definitely arranged to commence on November 26. It was resolved that the honorary secretary arrange for suitable uro- , pires for the match. ' The secretary of the West Coast Cricket Association wrote., stating that owing to the lack of interest in cricket on the West Coast his Association could not see its way to affiliate, with the New Zealand Cricket Council. The letter was received. The secretary of the Otago Cricket Association wrote, applying to have the Otago colours registered as dark blue, this being the provincial colours in all branches of sport in Otago. It was decided to agree to tfce Otago Association's request.

A letter was read from Mr R. Vincent, thanking the committee for the resolution of appreciation of his services on the Management Committee, and stated that if at some future time his services in the interests of the game were required he would endeavour to render any assistance he could.
