ARBITRATION COURT.

The last of the Dtmedin disputes tor this session was finished at-the Arbitration Court to-day,- several important decisions being made. n In respect to the Dunethn brewers and bottlers' award, the Court exempted wholesale chemists a.nd merchants. Regarding the employment of youths, the Court pointed out that the original clause was too wide in its terms. No youth under eighteen shall be employed in bottling intoxicating liquors. In the Otago and Southland cheese factory managers' award the Judge's memorandum stated that the Court had to strike out the provisions contained in the Conciliation Council's recommendation, which the award embodies, and had to redraw some obscure clauses. The managers' salaries range from £l5O to £350, each manager to be provided with a four-roomed house. No piecework is allowed. _ The Taieri and Peninsula Company is exempted from the clauses as to salary and piecework, but shall pay their cheese factory managers while making cheese a minimum of £3 10s per week. The award operates from September 1, and continues for three years. In the matter of the coalyard workers' dispute the Court claimed full responsibility for making the award. The Union asked for £3 a week for permanent workers, and Is 6d an hour for casuals, and the employers offered £2 5s a week for the permanent workers. The Court awarded £'2 10s and Is 2d an hour respectively. The award will operate for two years.
