FASTING.

AN AUCKLAND DISCIPLE. [Feom Our. CoHRIISrONnENT.] AUCKLAND, May 13

Fasting as a euro for disease • has always been regarded as something of nn experiment. Mr W. G. Greenwood, a carpenter, residing in Auckland, is noAv twenty-eight days out on a fast, which lie commenced upon the recommendation of a well-known metaphysician with the object of removing somo internal troubles. It is stated that for some years past Mr Greenwood has been in a chronic state of ill-health, and that, although ho consulted many doctors, the treatment which ho received was without avail. Just before he undertook his fast, tho metaphysician, under whose direction it is being conducted, diagnosed his ailments as including a duodenum ulcer, a strain of the ascending colon, vcaused principally by impact matter and general disorder of the stomach.

A week was spent in preparing for the fast proper. In the first place, tho patient stopped taking breakfast, and afterwards made a gradual reduction of other meals -till he was ablo to cease taking food altogether. During the first twenty-six days ho took water only, hut since Saturday last ho has inchilged to the extent of a small quantity of orange juice daily. Each day Mr Greenwood walks over a mile to the sanatorium, where he is heing treated.

He states that ho already feels much brighter and stronger, and ho is confident that he will derive much benefit from his treatment. The taking of the orange juice really marks tho breaking of the fast, but this is such, a gradual practice that it will be at least a week hence before he resumes taking solid food.
