H.M.S. NEW ZEALAND.

AT AUCKLAND. [Per P»bßs Association.]

AUCKLAND, April 30. The weather was showery to-day, but is not seriously interrupting the battleship programme. A large number of school children visited the vessel, and 1 250 bluejackets were entertained at luncheon by the citizens in the Town Hall, and were subsequently taken for a suburban tour on the trams.

MID-CANTERBURY ARRANGEMENTS. [From Otth Correspondent . ] ASHBURTON, April 30. The Mayor of Ashburton (Mr Henry Davis) has been in communication with the Hon H. D. Bell and the Hon R. H. Rhodes in reference to affording facilities to the people of Ashburton and other parts of mid-Canterbury_ to visit H.M.S. New Zealand, and asking that these facilities should be given to visit the ship when she is at the port of Timaru.

Mr Davis has received a reply to the effect that the present arrangements cannot be altered, and expressing a hope that the Ashburton and the other mid-Canterbury residents will take advantage of the visit of the ship while she is at Lyttelton, as great difficulty will be experienced in accommodating the South Canterbury visitors who will wish to see the battleship while she is at Timaru.
