FOOTBALL GROUNDS.

RUGBY UNION AND NORTHERN UNION. POSITION AT SYDENHAM. The Rugby Football League, the body which is playing the Northern Union game, has been unable to got.a ground in any of tho city parks. Tho Reserves Committee in reporting on tho matter last night, stated that the onlv remedy appeared to be the provision of more grounds, and the committee made the following recommendations : ' Sydenham Park.—Tho band rotunda to bo moved to a'position in the park nearly opposite the end of Durham Street. This, with the addition of a piece of land'at the back of the pumping station, would allow of more grounds being laid out. Linwood Park.—Another football and hockey ground could be laid out at the south-eastern end, and the committee recommended that this should bo made ready for the 191-1 season. The committee had not sufficient information before it to enable it to report the cost of adding the land at tho back of Sydenham pumping station to Sydenham Park. A deputation from the Sydenham Football' Club" waited on the Council to protest against the possibility of its losing two grounds in favour of the League teams. Mr W. Allavdyce (president) said that his club had been a tenant of Sydenham Park for twenty-five years, and had a big interest in the district, where it had built a hall. The membership totalled about 200, and the club with four teams would be in occupation of the grounds, throughout the season. The Mayor assured the deputation that, as far as ho knew.., no change was" contemplated in the disposal of tho football grounds. Subsequently, tho committee's reportwas adopted, ami it was decided to inform the Sydenham Football Club that there would be no change in the grounds.
