DROWNED IN A SQUALL. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received February 3, 10 a.m.) : MELBOURNE. February 3. Four employees of the Government Statistician's office went out in a bout fishing, and a squall upset the boat. Two -William Hyder and Austin Fyfo —were drowned. [Feu Pjikss Association.] PALMERSTON NORTH, Feb. 3. Constable Doylo; of Shannon, was badly knocked about on Saturday night, and is now in the Hospital. It is stated that "ho wont to put a man out of tho stables at the Albion Hotel, when tho man turned on him and fiercely assaulted him. The constable had his leg fractured and one eyo badly injured. His assailant bolted, and has not vet been arrested. DUNEDTN. February 3. Richard Golf, a divinity student, committed suicide at Roxburgh yesterday by shooting himself. It appears that Goff struck his head against a rook while bathing about live weeks ago, and it is thought by the doctor who attended him that this may have affected his mind The deceased was relieving the Rev T. Chandler, who is absent on leave. Mr Goff's parents reside in New South Wales. Most of those who knew the deceased incline, to tho belief that worry was the cause of the suicide, it having been noticed that he was nervously anxious about bis clerical duties and distrustful of his own efforts. The weapon used did not belong to the deceased. Ho found it in the manso. The congregation had assembled for tho morning servico before Mr Goff's death was discovered. Neil Johnston succumbed in the Hospital this morning to injuries sustained on Saturday through being knocked down by an engine at the foot of Hanover Street. He was a surfaceman, and did not hear tho engine shunting owing to the heavy wind. '
