Druxkennkss.-—One female first of- | fender and three males were each fined ss, in default twenty-four hours' im- j prisonment for drunkenness, and an- ' other male was convicted and discharged. An Old Hand.—Mary M'Kegney, a well-known character with innumerable previous convictions, who appeared before the Magistrate on Saturday last, and was given a chance upon her promising to leave for Wellington, again appeared, and sobfully asked for yet an-i other chance. The drink had got her down, she said, and she was so weak with it that ehe could not stand. She was sentenced to fourteen days' imprisonment, and on a charge of having used obscene language she. was sentenced to one month's imprisonment, the sentences to be cumulative. Affiliation.—-Frederick Vere Gwatkin was adjudged the putative father of an unborn illegitimate child, and was ordered to find security in £IOO that lie would comply with such order for its support as should thereafter be made. Mr Hunter appeared for the mother of the child.

Down in the Would. —Patrick Butler, an elderly man who was charged with drunkenness and with being an idle and disorderly person having insufficient lawful means of support, was stated by the Sub-Inspector to have come down in the world. The accused said that he was not destitute, since friends whom he had helped in his bettor days would come to his rescue. On that understanding he was convicted of drunkenness and discharged, and, on the charge of vagrancy, was ordered to come up for sentence when called upon. Defended Case.—Lawrence and Campbell (Mr Cuningham) claimed from Collins, Kerr and Co., Ltd (Mr Anthony) £2O for commission alleged to be due in respect of the sale of a Bnick motor-car to Mr W. M Williams on June 24, 1912. After evidence had been heard, judgment was given for the defendant, with costs.
