A BUSY DAY.
HON JAMES ALLEN IN CHRISI - CHURCH. Arriving in Lyttelton this morning, on his way south, tho Hon James Allen commenced a busy day bv visiting the Deaf Mutes' Institute in Sumner, and going from there to the Christchurch Technical College, where he inspected the day classes. This afternoon he visited the. Normal School,, tho Boys' High School, Elmwood School and Te Oranga Home. Hjv intention was to sep, the various institutions himself to obtain a grasp of tho wording of tho departments under his care. To-night ho will go out to Burnham and spend the night there, proceeding south tomorrow. Mr Allen stated that he was too busy to givo interviews to the newspapers, remarking that his time would be fully engaged during his stay in the city. GIRLS' HOSTEL. Afc the Technical College, Mr G. Scott, chairman of the Board of Governors, appealed to th© Minister for additional funds for the Girls' Hostel. Mr Allen replied that the Collego had already been assisted, and the amount raised for the Hostel had been subsidised in the usual way. He did not think it would be possible to make any further grants.
