A message from New York says that five women, clad only in their nightdresses, were rescued from the steamer James Ga.yley, which sank" yesterday in Lake Superior, off Manitou, after t collision with the steamer Renssleai. No lives were lost, although the Jam«i Gayley sank in twenty minutes. Sba had a cargo of 7100 tons of coal, hit was not insured. The loss is eetimatcl at half a million dollars. The Renssleir was badly damaged, but made Marquetto under her own steam.
