Mr George Lill, who has been farming in Dunsandel for the past tliirtytive years, is retiring from the land, and will leave in a few days to take up his home in St Albans, Christehm'ch. A London cable message states that. Miss Van Staveren, daughter of ths New Zealand Chief Uabbi, made her London debut at the opening performance of ''Carmen " at C'oront Garden. Arrivals in town include the following:—Mr and Mrs T. 1L Moore (Pnlinerston North). Messrs (I. Rutherford (Springbank), H. Fieldhouse ("Wellington), H. Menzies (Dunediii). 0. I'. "Wetzler (Xfnv York) ana B. Coleman (Mlenheim). Mr E. It. 'Waite, curator of the Canterbury Museum, lias made all his arrangement'; to leave Christehurc-h on Thursday to join the .Antarctic ship Aurora. Me will be accompanied by Mr E. J. Haynes. taxidermist at (he Museum, who will take an outfit, for preserving different typos of animals that may be obtained.
