AQUATIC.

Dick Arnst left Sydney on March 13 for England, to row his match with Barry on the River Thames. He is taking his wifo with him. He will arrange about trainers and pace-makers when he arrives there. Just what sort of form Arnst is in now, as regards sculling, it is hard to say, but so far as is known he has not been on the river more than twice since he defeated Pearce- Besides this, his 'general appearance does not denote condition, or perhaps it would be more correct to say that it denotes too much condition —of the wrong sort. Granted that he looks strong and healthy enough, but it would be decidedly better if he did not ehibit quite so much "form.'' However, he will have time in London to get thoroughly well, but if he wishes to make sure of the race, or as sure as ho can be, he will need to leave, sightseeing till after the race. He was accorded a hearty send-off. and wished bon-voyage and good luck from all sides. The gathering took place at Bateman's Hotel, and comprised oldtime champions of the world and many other scullers, and a huge concourse of general friends and admirers of the celebrated champion. They presented him with a ribbon, carrying a gold bar for each race he had won in which the championship was at stake, with the "tiamo of a victim and the date of his defeat on each bar. The donor of this unique gift evidently regards the forthcoming race as already over, because he has left room on the ribbon for a few more bars, especiallv for one bearing tho inscription " E. Barry, on the Thames course." It_ was a happy gathering, and if good wishes count for anything Arnst might just as well place that extra bar on his ribhon at once and collect his stake money.
