THE BUTTER MARKET.

[Pkr Press Association.]

AUCKLAND, March 21

A semblance of panic has been detected in somo parts of New Zealand during the past, few weeks, the cause being a series of rumours to the effect that a shortage of local supplies of butter for the winter months was likely to occur. That the note of alarm in this connection had apparently been overdrawn was indicated by information which was gleaned from authoritative sources this morning. "We have had a splendid season." said a. prominent merohant, "and the dairying industry has been the means of bringing much more than the usual amount of wealth into the dominion because of the record prices which have prevailed both in the Home and the Vancouver markets." Any suggestion of a "comer" having been created in London, he thought, was without foundation; in fact the dairying season was now tapering off, but by reason of the mild summer weather experienced it was making a strong finish. Shipments abroad -would probably cease early in the coming month, and it was anticipated that exports for the season from Auckland province would exceed those of last year by about 20 per cent. Up to date tiie total shipments for the present season were 269,183 boxes, being an increase of 37,173 boxes over those of last year.
