NEW ZEALAND PROHIBITION.
Q A USTR. AT JAN CRITICISM
United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received November 9, 10.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, November 9. The "Sydney Morning .Herald." commenting on the New Zealand prohibition movement, says that the absolute closing. of bars would bo a good thing, there is perhaps littlo doubt; but it is useless to legislate in advance of public opinion and it would involve a grave social evil if the prohibitionists had their way. Let the prohibitionists convert the rest of the people, if they can; but, if they the imposition of their ideal becomes a social tyranny sure to be bitterly resented, and to provoke a reaction which in the long run would be fatal to progress.
