THE MAINE VOTE.

STATE REMAINS PROHIBITIONIST United Press Association—By Electrio Telegraph—Copyright. (Received November 8. 8.5 a.m.) VANCOUVER, November 7. A Boston message says that the final figures for the elections in the State of Maine give a majority of twenty-six for anti-pi'diilution. Tin's result does not, however, settle the issuo of prohibition or otherwise. It merely repeals the constitutional amendment. The legislative enactment which provided for prohibition was passed before the constitutional amendment was passed, and therefore still exists, ami can only bo repealed by a referendum vote, consequently the State remains prohibitionist. Governor Plaistow decided on Monday to accept correction of the votes in two towns, thus reversing the previous result. A PROHIBITION CABLE. [Per Pbess Association.] WELLINGTON, November 8. Dawson to-day received a cable messago from Dr Berry, of Watervillo, Maine, stating that the ellicial recount showed a majority of 758 against tho repeal of tho prohibitory amendment in the State Constitution.
