CLOSING THE FUND
OVER FOUR THOUSAND POUNDS SUBSCRIBED.
The King George Memorial Homo Fund lias now closed, and the town clerk annpuneed to-day that the total was £4470 7s lOd. This includes the sum of £353 12s subscribed by the Masons of North Canterbury. As the monoy has como in it has been deposited with the Citj' Council under the Council's scheme for receiving temporary loans. In this way it has earned 3 per cent interest. That rate has been charged on a largo proportion of the total for several months, and it is expected that the interest will add nearly £IOO to the fund.
The Government will givo a subsidy of 24s for each pound on the total of £4470 7s lOd, increasing the sum available to about £9840.
