HAIRDRESSERS' HOLIDAYS.
ARBITRATION COURT DELAY.
DISSATISFACTION IN CHRISTCHURCH.
Owing to a de'ay by the Arbitration Court, the hairdressers in tho city are at "sixes and sevens" regarding the holidays for show week, and there has been a great deal of dissatisfaction expressed both by the employers and employees.
About u fortnight ago a petition signed by the representatives of the Tobacconists' (Employers) Association and the Employees' Union was forwarded through the clerk of awards to Mr Justice Sim, who is at present in Wellington. Tho petition prayed that Derby Day should be observed as a lioliduy, and that tho hairdressers' saloons should remain open on show day until noon instead of 11 a.m. as at present. .Both employers and employees wished a provision to be made in the existing award, and under the regulations .there should ho no reason for delay. So far, however, no acknowledgment of the receipt of the petition has been received, and nothing has been done to accede to the request. Roth organisations consider that thoy have been slighted, by tho Court, and it has been urged m some quarters that ministerial intervention should bo sought to compel tho Arbitration Court to accede promptly to the request mado at tho unanimous request oi the employers and employees in tho city.
