Trade Association's Smithfield Market quotations for the undermentioned classes of frozen f eat are based on actual sales of not less than 100 carcases of mutton or lainb or 25 carcases of beef of fair averago quality. These quotations arcnot for selected, lines, but for parcels fairly representative of the bulk of tht shipments now on the market:—

Tho Department of Industries and Commerce has received tjie following cable message from the High Commissioner, dated London, November 4. The quotations, unless otherwise specified, are tho average market prices on the spot:— Frozen Meat.—Mutton—The market is steady, and prices are well maintained; Canterbury, 4£d; North Island, Bfd. Lamb-—The market is quiet, hut holders are firm; Canterbury, sd; other than Canterbury, 4|d. Beef—The market is dull; New Zealand hindquarters SJd, forequarters 2sd. The following shipments of River Plate mutton and lamb were received during October, 1911:

Butter.—-The market is slightly weaker, with less demand on account of high prices; Danish. 1355; Siberian, 118s; Australian, 1265, Cheose.—-The market is quiet, but steady, with no change in prices; Canadian, 69s to 70s.

Hemp.—-The market is quiet, with a tendency in favour of buyers; New Zealand good fair on spot, £l9 los per ton, fair grade £lB 15s, fair current Manila £l9 10s; forward shipment, New Zealand good fair £2O per ton, fair grade £l9, fair current Manila £2O 10s. Tho output from Manila for the week was 2-1,000 bales. The stock of New Zealand homp is 810 tons.
