Drivers' and Firemen's Association lias sent mi ultimatum to tho proprietors of Mount Lyell that the drivers and firemen will cease work today if not planted tho terms set out in Mr Justice Hi.coins' proposed award, and also the motor drivers and electrical workers. unices they receive the terms proposed in the award granted to the Broken I-lill men. Neither en-gine-drivers nor miners will return until conceded tho following terms:—Recognition of the Union, tho eight hours' principle, increase of wages, a conference with the directors and tho agreement signed by the directors and. the Union officials. Tlio secretary of the engine-drivers states that tho claim for the reinstatement of White lias been dropped. ARCHBISHOP KELLY OX STRIKES Archbishop Kelly declares that a. strike, is the last thing Australians should do. Strikes put back tho progress of tho country arid wore quite unjustifiable in a land like this.

At a meeting hold yesterday tho Otago branch of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants unanimously resolved That this meeting enter an emphatic protest against the Minister of Railway's breach of faith in not raising the wages of the lowor paid men to 9s per day, as f-oreshadowed by him when dealing with the Budget. The amount granted—2id per day to married men an insult and disgrace to tho dominion."
