It is announced that the Union Company intends to extend the "WellingtonSan Francisco service to Sydney. The new steamer Tahiti will inaugurate the service, sailing from Sydney on December 9. The Matai and Orangi will also bo employed and a twenty-eight day service will be maintained. No defmito decision has been arrived at respecting a Commonwealth subsidy, but probably an amount will be voted. THE LITHGOW RIOTS. SYDNEY, November 4. The Attorney-General will not proceed further in the cases of Dixon and Cairnes in connection with the Lithgow riots, in which the jury failed to agree. SEVERE DROIT,HT. BRISBANE,•' November 4. Sir,—The following reports appeared in the Christehureh rooming journals yesterday, and. as they are entirely different as to the vote passed at the conclusion of the meeting, I wish you would let me know which is correct, as one or other is obviously misleading: — The '■ Press " :■■—At Tcmpletou last evening Mr C. H. Elisor, Independent candidate for Ricenrton. addressed a crowded meeting. He was accorded a vote of thanks and confidence. " Ly Helton Times " :--At Temploton last evening Mr C. VI. Elisor addressed a very large nudionee, Mr Benjamin presiding. At the opening of the meetnig a portion of the audience was aggressive, hut when Mr .Elisor had been speaking a little while ho obtained th* j undivided attention of his hearers, and after ho had answered, a number of questions a. hearty vote of thanks was accorded him unanimously. 1 am, etc.. - RICCARTON ELECTOR.
