CHRISTCHURCH NORTH.
THE BY-ELECTION
A CANCELLED MEETING
It is understood that the Church authorities refused to sanction the meeting of Roman Catholics called for tonight to promote the candidature of Mr J. D. Hall, and tho meeting has therefore been cancelled. Strong exception was taken by a number of parishioners of St Mary's to tho attempt to raise the sectarian issue in the election, and when the matter was mentioned to the authorities they directed that the parish buildings should not be used for a political purpose.
Mr L. M. Isitt will address a public meeting at eight o'clock to-night in St Matthew's Schoolroom, Caledonian Road.
Mr J. D. Hall will speak in the Fitzgerald Street Schoolroom to-night, at eight o'clock. Mr Isitt will speak in the King's Theatre to-morrow night. Mr Hall will deliver his final address in St Luke's Schoolroom to-morrow night.
