FIRE IN A SPIRIT STORE. United Press Association—By Electrio Telegraph—Copyright. (Received August 15, 10 a.m.) LONDON, August 14
During a fire at Pownceby's wine and spirit depot, Oxford Street, three persons took refuge on the burning roof. They were rescued by hook ladders and ropes.
[Pee Press Association.] WELLINGTON, August 15. A houoe of seven rooms at Seatoun, owned by William Watson and occupied by Horace Crammond, manager of Cook's Tourist Agency, was burned to the ground between one and two o'clock this morning. The furniture and effects, which were insured in the National Office for £250, were also destroyed. The inmates escaped in scanty attire. The house was insured for £3OO in the Northern Office. DUNEDIN, August 15. A five-roomed house in South Dunedin, occupied by Mr W T . Johnston, carter, was burned down early this morning. Mr Johnston's effects were insured in the Phoenix Office for £165. The house was owned by Mr Cook, a railway servant, and was insured in the Commercial Union Office for £285.
INVERCARGILL, August 15. The Presbyterian Church in North Invercargill, a wooden building, was destroyed by fire this morning. It was insured for £250.
