PERSONAL.
A London cable message states that the widow of Sir Peter Russell died after an operation. Colonel A. W. Robin and Major Knox arrived from Wellington by the Maori this morning. Dr Smith and Messrs H. H. Mirams and F. M'Lean were passengers from Wellington by the Maori this morning. The Hon George Jones and Mrs Jones (Oamaru), are at present in Christchurch. They will return to Oamaru on Thursday. Father Gilbert, Father Symons, Father Hickson, Father Holley and Dr Kennedy arrived from Wellington by the Maori this morning. On Friday evening the residents of Hinds met at the hall to say good-bye to Mr and Mrs D. Miller and family, who are leaving the district after a residence of seventeen years. Mr J, M. Hampton presided, and presented to Mrs Miller a silver tea service and tray and to Mr Miller a purse of sovereigns. Mr Watson, on behalf of the Presbyterian Church, presented to Mrs Miller a travelling rug and Bible. Complimentary speeches were made by Messrs D. M Kenzie, R. Curtis and T. G. Gibbs.
