MEDICAL INSPECTION OF SCHOOLS.
♦ —• TFKOM OtJjß. COEHESPOJTDKNT.] WELLINGTON, July 3. "It is a very big question," states the Minister of Education (the Hon G. Fowlds), apropos of the scheme for the medical examination of schools, approved by the Conference of Hospital aiul Charitable-Aid Boards. "1 should like to see something definite done in regard to it," he added, " but it is mainly a matter of finance. To get the thing organised means a very considerable direct expense, because there will bo the fitting up of each school with simple apparatus for testing sight and hearing. The scheme would also involve the appointment of at least two doctors, one male and one female, for the general instruction of the teachers and the supervision of the work throughout the country. T cannot at present say whether the Government will be prepared to take up the scheme this year, but the matter is under consideration."
