Sir Robert Stout, the Chief Justice, will leave for Wellington this evening. Colonel Robin, chief of tho General Staff, arrived in C.hristcJuirch this morning. He will deliver; a lecture this evening before tho Ohristehurcb. Officers' Club, and will leave for Duiiedin to-morrow inorning. Mr Godfrey Jacobs, u well-known member of the Duneclin Jewish _ community, died this morning, aged eightytwo. He was a prominent membpr ef tho Dunedin Navals. and retired with tho honorary rank of major. Mr Hiuman, who successfully defended the landlord and twenty leading citizen.-; against charges of breaches of the Licensing Act on the occasion of the entertainment of Mr \V. F. Massey, M.P., at tho Post Oliicc Hotel in Greymouth, was to-day presented with an illuminated address of thanks and also a handsome ChesforfieM couch, as a 'memento of that prosecution.
