LONDON, August 2
After the House of Commons had disagreed therewith, the House ol Lords abandoned the amendment to the British Census Bill for providing c column in the census papers showing the religion of the people.
£100,000,000 DEFENCE LOAN

LONDON, August 2,
Committees of the House of Lords and the House of Commons have joined the Maritime League's movement in favour of raising a £100,000,000 defence loan.
Lord Sandwich, in the House of Lords, declared that he had spent hundreds of thousands of pounds.on his Huntingdonshire estate without profit, and the Budget would probably compel him to leave tho country.
