ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
[Per Peess Association.] AUCKLAND, _ August 1. Two menj named Frank W. Moore and William Brougli, were killed i.u Ralph's Mine, Huntly, by a' large fall oi stone and fireclay. Moore and a miner named Ward were working on a stone drive, and Ward had moved a short distance when the fall occurred, burying his mate and Brough, who was trucking to them. Ward escaped unhurt. Moore was about thirty years of age, and leaves a wife and five children. Brough was a single man of twenty-five years, and has a brother in tile Nelson district. DARGAVILLE, August 1. An inquest was held on Saturday concerning the death of tile Maori chief Maru-Papita. Tho evidence showed that the deceased had been ill, and had got up on Wednesday night to take medicine, but drank from a bottle containing spirits of salts by mistake, death ensuing next day. A verdict was returned of death from poison, but that the evidence did not s'::cw how the poison had been administered.
The police authorities in Christchurch received a telegram from Oamaru this morning stating that the body of a man named A. E. Bye-rs, who was drowned in the Waimate River, at Redcliffs, on Juno 3, had been found in the Awamoka.
