THEATRE ROYAL,

"Pete," the dramatisation of Ml. Hall Cain©'B powerful novel, " The Manxman,'' was repeated at th*. i\hs>atro Royal last evening by Aiessiv Clarke and Moynall's Company. Then was a largo audience and the play wai very well received, the principals, Mi it. R. Roberts and Miss Beatrice Day. oeiig frequently applauded. "Pete' will be presented again this evening. KING'S THEATRE. The entertainment at the King': Theatre last evening gained an addei. interest from tho fact that it was as sociated with the efforts of the Christchurch Canal League. The manager. Mr Geoffrey Nye, recently offered to devote the proceeds of a : performance to the funds of the Leaglie, and that offer was accepted by the chairman oi the League, Mr C. Allison. The audience was a large one, the house being ailed in every part. The new selection of West's Pictures shown for the first time on the previous evening, was again presented, and several additional items were accled to the programme. At the commencement of tho second half _ the cbairmail of the Canal League briefly addressed the audience on the objects of the League, and thanked tho management of West's Pictures for its assistance. lie then announced the numbers of the seats to the occupants of which tickets for the League's art union were presented. The national song composed for New Zealand by Mr W. K. Morrison, and set to music by Mr F. G. Mumford was then sung by Mr S. Allright. The sentiments expressed in " Maoriland " were* appropriately loyal and patriotic, the music was of an attractive character, and it was excellently sung by Mr Allright; The song was accompanied by the presentation of a ( fine series of the pictures of the thermal districts in the neighbourhood of Rotorua. "Maoriland'"' will be suno; bv Mr S. Allright, and the New Zealand series will also be shown each evening until Wednesday.

FULLER'S \ There was another large attendance at the Colosseum" last evening, and the programme of Fuller's Pictures was again well received. This afternoon and evening the same pictures will be shown.

HTS MAJESTY'S THEATRE,

There was a large attendance at His Majeptv's Theatre last night, when the Richmond Amateur Swimming Club's benefit performance for Mrs W. Sim was given. It was announced that a number of the tickets that had been sold had not been presented, and the holders would be permuted to make use of them on the following Friday. At the > conclusion of the profrrnmmo Mr E. Eklridge. on behalf of the 'Club, thanked the management of the Pathe Pictures.' This afternoon and evening the same films will be exhibited. OPERA HOUSE. The new programme of vaudeville turns and pictures was given for the second t : °at the Opera House last evening. The audience was a larsie one, and the quality of the entertainment met with general approval. Mr-.Garden Wilson and Miss Pearl Hollmrich, who have rejoined the company, were loudly apnlauded, and tho members 6f the company were all well received. ■ The moving pictures were Of a plcasinsr nature.
