RECEPTION OF AN EVANGELIST. There was a large attendance at the Salvation Army Barracks last evening when Colonel Brengl© and his secretary, Ensign Cook, were accorded a reception upon their arrival from the United States. Brigadier Albiston presided, and in opening the meeting said that the mission upon which Colonel Brengle Was engaged was of great importance to the Salvation Army, and would have a marked effect on its work throughout the dominion. Colonel Brengle, who was received with enthusiastic applause, said that he appreciated the hearty welcome he had received in Christchurch, and was sure from what he had seen *f the Christchurch Salvationists that his mission throughout the dominion would be a pleasant and profitable one. He depended upon the liearty co-operation of his fellow-Salvationists in New Zealand to make his mission a successful one, and he was sure that his reliance upon them would not be misplaced. During the evening many Salvation Army songs were sung, and the proceedings were marked by much enthusiasm.

Colonel Brengle has had an interesting and eventful career. Ho is a citizen of the United States, and his father was one of those who fought in the Civil War. Born in Indiana, Colonel Brengle graduated at the University of Depaugh, and was later a student at the Boston Theological College. After becoming a Methodist preacher he met General Booth, and twenty years ago was made a captain of the Salvation Army. Five years ago he became an international evangelist for the Salvation Army, and lie has visited England and Europe. His present mission is a .flijt months' tour of Australasia, during ■which he will visit the principal towns of and New Zealand. Colonel Brengle is accompanied by Ensign Cook as secretary. Mr Cook hails from New York, and is a vocalist of considerable ability, and in his capacity as a singer is able to popularise the mission meetings to a very great extent. Colonel Brengle will leave for the south to-day and will conduct mission meetings from the Bluff to Auckland.
