ASHBURTON.
j The annual meeting of the Ashburton Borough Council and installation of the Mayor (Mr H. Davis) took place last evening. There was a large gathering of councillors, ex-mayors, representatives of other local bodies and burgesses of Ashburton. The Mayor, in making his annual statement, congratulated the members of the last Council on their re-election and thanked the electors for the confidence they bad shown in* him by re-electing him without opposition for the seventh year in succession. The senior councillor, Mr J. Davison, formally installed Mr Davis as Mayor, and> warmly coneratulated him on his re-election. At the invitation of the Mayor, those present met at supper and enjoyed a pleasant gather in g.
