JUNIOR REPRESENTATIVE MATCH.

OTAGO v. CANTERBURY. CANTERBURY WINS BY 809 RUNS. The Otago and Canterbury Junior representative teams continued their match at Lancaster Park to-day, Canterbury, with a lead of 58 on the. first innings, and two wickets down for 135. The- not-out men, Jacobs and Spinks, continued a steady partnership, which was rather slow, and not at all necessary at that stage of the game, when runs were required' quickly, A separation came with the total at 222, Jacobs being bowled by Worrall for a fairly sound innings. Donnelly, the top and unbeaten scorer of the first innings, put a different complexion on the | game', and commenced to force the pace with some pretty drives, getting 35 ! runs off his own bat in twenty minutes. Frequent changes were made in the bowling, Shelton eventually taking off the pads with the total at 272. With the total unchanged, Spinks, who had been playing unattractive cricket for .a century, ! got his leg in front to Co* ! Inmb, and the board read 272— 4—87. Wilson, the next man, also hit out freely, with a nice off drive, and shortly after mid-day the third century was posted, Donnelly having nit eight fours all round the wicket, having passed his half century in forty minutes. He ran smartly between the wickets for every hit. In an hour's play he had made 86, bnt was then caught by Grigg at mid-off off Skelton. 358—^-5-7^86, His averaoe for the match was 128. Hidden joined Wil-

son, who had meanwhile mad© 33, and the rate of scoring oontinued until Wilson was caught at short 6lip by Miles off Wycherley. 373 — 6 — 44. Eain joined Hebden within fifteen minutes of the luncheon adjournment, and hit Wycherley for two successive fours, doing the same with Mills's next over. Then he hit Wycherley 's next over for a four and a three, bringing 400 up, and sent Mills for a four, but in hitting out at the next was clean-bowled. 410^—7 — 30. Deacon joined Hebden, and they played out the luncheon adjournment, when the innings was declared closed with seven wickets down for 413. Mills put up a very good performance with the ball in taking four wickets for 82, while taking the bulk of the bowling. Otago their innings with •four hours to play, requiring 472 .to win. Skelton and Brinsley opened to the bowling, of Bain and Hudson. In the second over Skelton called for a short hit, and Brinsley was run out by a good throw in by Johnson. 1 — 1 — 1. Duthie joined Skelton., and commenced to hit, but had a life when he had made 24, Johnson dropping him at square-leg, while immediately afterwards he should have been stumped. With three-quarters of an hour gone Shelton played one on from Hudson. 38 — 2 — lo. Columb joined Duthie, who was treating the bowling disrespectfully, being prepared to hit every kind of ball. He scored 58 all round the wicket, a nice off drive being his prettiest stroke. 'With the score at 85 he was clean bowled by Hebden, who had just relieved Hudson. Hebden's nest ball took Abott's wicket, and the board read — 85 — 3—o. Worrall ' joined Columb, and was opt lbw to Wilson's first ball bf the innings. Foster made a few good strokes, and then hit one off Wilson to Johnson at cover when he had made 12. 108—6—12. Columb meanwhile had been batting steadily for 27, and with Wycherley kept the wicket up for thirty-five minutes, but eventually 1 hit one up off Hebden to the wicket-keeper. 124 — 7 — 9. Grigg and Columb survived the luncheon adjournment, after which a sharp *shower of rain fell. Bain and Donnelly took up the bowling, but the rain seemed to take the sting out of it.. Then Donnelley clean bowled Columb, who had given only one hpt chance in a patient innings, and the score was 157 — 8 — 49. Harraway soon lost Gfrieg, who was caught by Spinks at third man off Bain. 161^-9 — 17. Mills was last man and h© was bowled by Donnelly first ball.
