* [Per Press Association,] WELLINGTON, August 5. The Municipal Conference to-day discussed several remits regarding th© Slaughtering and Inspection Act. It was eventually decided that the Act ' should he amended so as to place the slaughtering of swine on th© same footing as that of othei; stock. A motion from Timaru, that no slaughtering should be permitted or licensed within three miles from any part of the boundaries of an abattoir district, was rejected. The need of a clear ing-house was affirmed in a remit sent from Dunedin and Oamaru, that a Bill should be passed to admit of local authorities setting part a clearing-house or making some such similar provision for meat inspection. I The Dunedin motion regarding a ' cle.aring house was withdrawn. The Legal Committee, reporting on the Corporation Contract Bill, which is now before Parliament, stated that it did not see any necessity for altering the present law, but if the Government desired to amend the law the committee ivas of opinion that the alteration should bo on the lines of the English law, so that a decision given in England might be applicable in the dominion.
