DUNEDIN, August 1

The Dunedin Seniors sustained their first defeat of tho season to-day, when Southern put thorn down by two tries (scored by Chambers and Reese) to nil. Tho result was due to the fine forward play of Southern. Stalker, one of Dunedin'a prominent players, damaged tho cartilage of his knee, .and will be unavailable till next season. Zingari beat Alhambra by five points to three. Zingari's win was due to the magnificent work of their full-back, Torrance, who saved his side time after time. Kaikorai beat Taieri Rovei^s by nine points to three. This was a, very ragged match, the exhibition given by both sides being disappointing. Tries were obtained by Dwyer, Oman and Boulter, University beat Union by sixteen points to three. This was a splendid game 4 University luad all tlie best of the first spell, and the forwards showed brilliant passing. They scored four tries, two of which were converted. Union 'had rather the better of the second half, and scored a try.

In the Association^ senior grade, Northern (3) beat Maori Hill (Q), Mornington B (4) beat Roslyn (2), Mornington A (5) beat Southern (2)

Southland Commercials beat Otago Commercials by eight points to six (two tries, one converted, to two tries). Owaka won the South Otago Senior Banner for the fourth year in succession.
