FIRES.
; « [Per Press Association.] DUNEDIN, June 4. A shop in George Street, occupied partly by George Cann, fruiterer, and partly- by Denby Terry, stationer, was completely gutted by fire early this morning. Cann, who- left the shop before midnight after extinguishing a fire which had been burning in an open grate, says that he lost £40 in notes, which he had 6towed away under an old sofa. The building was owned 1 by Mr S. Solomon, solicitor, and was insured in the Victoria; Office for £400. Terry's stock was insured in the Guardian Office and Cann's in thd Phoenix. INVERCARGILL, June 4. The Rivorton District High School was completely destroyed by fire at one o'clock this morning.
