T , .. „ , Saturday. Despite a bleak, cold morning a fairly large gathering of onlookers was present to watoh proceedings, which, however, were not of_a very exciiiny nature. G-len-culloch, who was the first out, registered a, working gallop over a mile and a quarter moving freely and well. Stratagem (lightweight) ran a mile comfortably iv lmin 48sec, while Carissima (light-weight) defeated Jiairoma (M'-Combe) and Martyrium (Jones) in a spin over seven furlongs, run in Imm 32& sec. Sister Anne easily defeated Goldbeater over five furlongs, run in lmin 4Jsec from a standing Btart, while Paragon (Hack), and Lapland (F. Thompson) broke away at the mile and a quarter di6C On reaching the seven-furlong post they were joined by Somaroff. Paragon, finishing tip his task in a pleasing manner, was about two lengths iikcad of Somaroff on passing the post, with Lapland some distance away. Zimmerman (Jones) and Gwendoline (Hack) ran about a mil© and three-quarters at steady three-quarter speed, brushing home over the last half-mile iv BOJseo, finishing: together. Both horses went freely, but Gwendoline showed a tendency to soreness in front on trotting back to the sfh©d3, but it is probably only temporary. Petrovna and White Cockade compassed two circuits, spurting three furlongs down the straight the first round and brushing over half a mile, the last time in Cl&ec, finishing strongly. Signor performed a sprinting task. All Red (M'Clusky) had Contender (F. E. Jones) well beaten at the end of a spin over six furlongs, run in lmin 18sec, and. his performance created a very favourable impression. Silkweb was better than Chief Loehiel over half a mile, run in 50sec, while North Pole, Mercy and Helianthes galloped seven furlongs. The start was a straggling one, North Pole being left several lengths. He finished in front of Mercy, but could no* overtake Helianth.es, who finished a coupl© of lengths ahead. North Pole's time for the journey was lmin 33 3-Sseo. Rock Ferry and Stronghold ware to have galloped five furlongs together, but the former broke away before reaching the mark and was not extended. Stronghold running the journey alone in lmin 6sec. Nightlight defeated St Bernard after a. good set-to over half a mile, and Full Rate, looking well, compassed a circuit on the plough" at three-quarter speed, moving freely. Storm was too good for Canton over a mile and a quarter, run in 2min 20sec, and Southern Cross easily defeated Eurus in a gallop over a mile. Cross Battery (R. King) ran half a mile very easily in 50 l-ssec, while Mango finished four lengths ahead of Kelp in a spin over six furlongs, run in • lmin 20sec. Whistlecraft, Millionaire and Cockleshell ran five furlongs in lmin iisoc on the plough, finishing .in the order named. Apollyon, Balaclava, Kilts and Master ■ Leslie were exercised at the barrier, and subsequently performed sprinting tasks. Several others were given useful tasks.
