[Pwa Press Association.] AUCKLAND, April 16. The Auokland volunteers will participate in the Easter manoeuvres on a large scale. The presumption is that, a raiding force, escorted by cruisers, will be within striking distance of the coast at 5 p.m. on Friday. LieutenantColonel Read will command the attacking party, and Major Porritt will direct the operations of the defending force. The Araokura will act in a dual position, and sometimes be a hostile cruiser attacking th? forte, and at other times she will examine each vessel that looks suspicious entering the port a t a certain hour at night. ISLTHAM, April 16. A poll yesterday in favour of a loan of £6500 for footpath and water drainage extension was carried by 68 to 31. Little interest was taken in the poll. WELLINGTON April 16. The only applicant for the Research Scholarship allocated to Victoria College is Miss Clara Taylor, who has been recommended for the honour by the science professors. Miss Taylor secured her M.A. degree in 190? with second class honours in chemistry. It is stated that proceedings are shortly to be instituted against some butter factories which stored their butter instead of fulfilling their contracts.
