Lard Fit/maurico, Under-Se«retary for Foreign Affairs, and Mr T. R. Bu- j chanon, Undor-Secretary ,for India, have been created Privy Councillors. The "Daily Chronioto " urges Mr W. Runciman, President of the Education Board, to convene an informal' conference to arrange a compromise on the education question ; Mr A. G. Hales has abandoned his candidature tor the North-west Manchester by-election, and will support Mr Hicks. Mr Irving, a Socialist candidate, will »tand. stand. Mr Churchill, in a vigorous speech at Manobfater, declared that his defeat would be a serious blow to free trade, but would not cause the Government to resign. In reply to the suffragettes, Mr Churchill said that he favoured woman suffrage.
