LONDON, April 14.
Owing to the absence of direct telephones and the slowness of the telegrams, bets were accepted in Vienna two and, a half liotirg after English races were run. A group of sharpers, utilising telephones between London, Paris and Berlin and thence to Vienna, swindled the local bookmakers of many thousands of pounds.
