THE SEAMEN'S STRIKE.
SETTLEMENT OF THE DISPUTE. United Press Association— By Eleotiio Telegraph— Copyright. (Received April 14, 9.20 a.m.) SYDNEY, April 14. The strike has been settled. The Seamen's Union lbas agreed to the coastal shipowners having a month to arrange for all non-Union crews to be brought together into six steamers. Meantime Unionists- and non-Unioniets will work together in th© vessels. Trouble has also cropped up at Newcastle, 33 out of 38 non-Unionists employed by the Newcastle-Hunter River Company struck, on the ground that under the new agreement they were paid casual rates instead of weekly wages. Eleven returned to work, and the places of the others were filled by Unionists.
[Per Press Association.] HASTINGS, April 14. All the drivers who struck yesterday, with the exception of one man, returned to their respective carts this morning. The master bakers agreed to pay the wages demanded. The otner bakers declined to consider the men s demands. In the case of the man who has not been taken back his employer states that ho had decided to dispense with that driver's services prior to the strike. It is probably due to the interview of the factory . inspector, Mr Culver, with the men yesterday, that the strike terminated. WESTPORT, April 14. The Denniston Miners' Union has instructed ite secretary to take immediate steps to cancel the union's registration under the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act.
