PERSONAL.
[ The Eev Owen Lloyd Williams, reotor of Llanrhyddlad, Anglesey, who was recently appointed to a Canonry in Ban-go? Cathedral, has, in addition to his pastoral work, always commanded the local lifeboat, until compelled to retire by old age. In 1854, for example, he went out on a pitch-dark night in a gale of wind on the coast of Anglesey and saved twenty-four lives. Again, he went out in December, 1862. on the Carnarvonshire coast, and brought home twenty-four men. In 1870, on a dark night in a heavy sea, he rescued the crew of the Kenilworfch, for which he received the silver medal of the Lifeboat Institution. Again, he was out for twenty-four hours standing by the Dusty Miller, till a tug came and dragged her off St Patrick's Causeway. For this he received a second service clasp and a pair of silver-mounted binoculars. He has at different times received other presentations, notably a gold watch and chain from the whole body of marinerc j on the Welsh coasts for his exertions j in saving the lives of so many of them. Dr W. Fox (Omihi) and Mr J. R. De Costa (Dunedin) are in town. Mr Hawley, Collector of Customs at Gisborne, has been transferred to Timaru, and Mr Howie, of Westport, will go to. Gisborne.
