CANTERBURY CRICKET ASSOCIATION. The annual smoke concert and presentation of cups in connection with the Canterbury Cricket Association was held in the Chamber of GSS&nerce on Saturday evening. Mr A. Wilding, who presided, said he believed that the district scheme would be successful and permanent. Canterbury, he thought, ought to . regain the supremacy it once lield in regard to interprovincial cricket, andthe position ought to be regained, not by the importation, of outside talent, but by the efforts of Canterbury players. 'lac toast of " The Winners, proposed by the chairman, was responded to by the captains of the successful teams. Mr G. Payling (Mayor), in proposing "Cricket," said that he intended to do his best to have improvements made at St Albans Park. He hoped that two good cricket pitches would be available for use next season, and that young cricketers would make full use of them. The toast was responded to by Mr White. "Kindred Sports" was proposed by Mr T. W. Reese, and responded to by Messrs A H. Nield, E. Harper, and C. M. Gray, M.P., and "The Umpires" was proposed by Mr Gray, and responded to by Mr A. Hart. During the evening trophies wer« presented to the captains of the successful teams as followsi : — Petersen Shield (District Champjpnship), Sydenham (Mr J. N. Fowke) j First Grade Senior Cup, West Christchurch (Mr D. Reese) ; Second Grade (Junior Cup), Sydenham (Mr D. H. Thomson) ; Third Grade (President's Cup), West Christchurch (Mr M'Lean) ; Fourth Grade (Vico-President's Cup), Sydenham (Mr G. Russell). Mr F. C. Raphael presented a bat to [ Mr B. Wood for the fin© score he made in the interprovincial match against Wellington.
