The Conciliation Board sat this morning to hear the general labourers' pute as affecting local bodies and con, tractors. The employers, considering that there were no local, demands for increased wages, and, therefore, no dispute, did not appear, but several were subpoenaed by the Board, and gave evidence. The chairman said that it did not matter whether the dispute affected the local contractors. It originated in Wellington, the industrial district, and, therefore, had to be heard as affecting the whole district. Several workers' representatives also gave evidence.. The Board adjourned to Palmerston, and will afterwards sit at other centres,,
