' Drunkenness. — John Cook was fined ss, with, the usual alternative, for drunkenness and, for having broken three panes of glass, he was fined 40s and ordered to pay for the damage done, in default a month's imprisonment. — A first offender was fined os, or twenty-four hours' in gaol, and Michael Hughes was fined a similar amount, and 10s, or forty-eight hours' imprisonment,, for having refused to leave the Zetland Hotel. Imi-'obtuntng. — Emma Hughes was fined 20s, in default a month's imprisonment, for having importuned footpassengers in Moorhouse Avenue. A Series of Breaches. — James Mason alias George Mason alias James Alfred Smith, who had entered the Prince of Wales Hotel during the curacy of a prohibition order', -was fined _os, in default fourteen days' imprisonment. — ■ John Howard, for a similar offence, was fined the same amount. — John Nixon, who procured liquor during the currency of a prohibition order, was fined 40s, in default a month's imprisonment. Mr Bislgsp remarked that breaches of prohibition orders were becoming very frequent, and he would have to stiffen the penalty. Dismissed. — Richard Henry Gray pleaded not guilty to a charge of having been on licensed premises during the currency of a prohibition order. He was cautioned by the Magistrate, who dismissed the» charge. — George Richmond Fleming (Mr Donnelly) pleaded not -guilty to a charge of having procured liquor for John Nixon, knowing him to be prohibited. Mrs Nixon said that she had told Fleming on three occasions that her husband was prohibited. Fleming said that he had no knowledge of the fact that Nixon was prohibited. The case was dismissed without prejudice. -, An Hotel Case. — Maurice Lyons, for whom Mr Russell, instructed by the Licensed Victuallers' Association, appeared, was charged by the Inspector of Factories (Mr Cassidy) with having, on March 7, failed to grant a half-holiday to an employee o£ the United Service Hotel, of which Lyons is licensee. Mr, Cassidy pointed out that a similar case in Wellington'had been dismissed by Mr.Riddell, S.M., and the Magistrate said that tlie proper course for the Department to pursue would liav e been to appeal, and not bring a. case in Christchurch for another Magistrate to give a decision. On the facts presented, he wouid dismiss the case. No costs were allowed. .. . _; Maintenance. — Frederick William Drummond (Mr Hunt) was- charged by liis wife. Elizabeth Drummond (Mr Salter), with persistent cruelty and ne-o-lect. After hearing evidence, an order was made that she should b e no longer com-nelled to live with her husband, and that she should have the custody of the children, defendant to pay £l'per week towards their support, and defray the cost of the proceedings. —James Graham was ordered to pay up arrears amounting to £4 ]0s oh an order for tnG support of his illegitimate child. ■
