A BURGLAR CAUGHL.

COftIMITTED FOR SENTENCE. On February 26 Mr David Grubb's house in Lyttelton was broken and entered during the owner's absence in the afternoon. The burglar took away with him money, two watches and a foreign coin, and for a time eluded the police. He was finally caught, however, and arrested on a charge of having broken and entered a house in Wellington, and some of the goods stolen from Mr Grubb's house were found on him. He then voluntarily admitted that, he had entered Mr Grubb's residence, and Detective Williams, who arrested him in Wellington, brought him to Lyttelton, where he was charged this morning, before 3VIr A. Chalmers, J.P., and Mr G, C. Smith, J. J., with having broken and" entered Mr Grubb's house, and with having stolen £2 10s in money, foreign coins valued at £1 Is, two silver watches, valued at £10, one rolled-gold chain, valued at £1, one silver chain, valued at 10», one old half-guinea piece, valued at £1 10s; total value £16 lis. Evidence was lead in order to establish a prima facie case, and it was to the effect that Ronald Grand Gilbert alias George Moore, the burglar, broke and entered tlie house between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. on February 26, and was seen coming from the direction of the house with a watch in his hand.
