Mr Barnes., general, secretary of the engineers, in a speech in London said that the engineers in the north-east wero wrongly advised in their rejection of the terms, inasmuch as arbitration would have yielded better results than a strike fought on a falling market, and the vote had weakened the influence of the trade unions.
