NORTH CANTERBURY DISTRICT.

I The annual meeting of the North Canterbury District Lodge of Oddfellows, Manchester Unity, was held in the Oddfellows' Chambers, St Asaph Street, on March 19; present — Brothers H. B. Veitch. Prov. G.M.. A. L. Gourlay, Prov. D.G.M. and C. Poster, Prov. CS., and forty delegates from the City of Christchurch, Kaiapoi, Volunteer, Benevolent, Perseverance, Eeeston_. Malvern, Phillipstown, Addington, Papanui, Coleridge, Heart of Oak, Riccarton, Jubilee, Sister Pearce and Tamahine Lodges. ' The Prov. G.M. reviewed the work of the year, and congratulated the ledges on their success, stating that 139 members had been admitted and 111 had left. Sick allowances had amounted to £2096 and funeral claims to £470. The 6ick and funeral fund of the combined lodges showed an increase of £1728; Brother A. L. Gourlay was elected Prov. G.M., Brother E. Kent Prov. D.G.M. and Brother J. R. Merriman, P.G., junior auditor. It wae resolved to abolish half-yearjy meetings, and to hold the annual meeting in the third week in March in each year* alternately in C-tristchurch and at

■ a place arranged by eacb lodge in the district in rotation. The officers were installed by Brothers Kent and J. Williamson, P.P.G.M.'s. It was resolved , that the retiring G.M.s name should be placed on the merit board, and he should receive the P.P.G.M.'s degree and .he usual honorarium. In the evening a Past Grand Lodge was held, and degrees were conferred on nine past officers. > (
