Tie six hundred and sixty yards were covered in lOmin 28sec. On the run home the leader was not pressed, and took things easy, allowing Freyburg to reduce the gap by five yards. Bridges completed the course about fifty yards behind. The time, 15min 4sec, was comparatively slow, but the competitors had to contend with choppy water, and Champion was never called upton to do his best. Freyburg was the subject of another protest. The third man, H. H. Rich, appealed that Freyburg "took his water "by swimming across his course. The committee decided that it was of opinion that Freyburg left ample room fox Rich, and dismissed the protest. It is understood that Rioh will appeal to the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Asaociatdon. Last yea_ J s champion was B. C. Freyburg (Wellington). The remainder of the championships will be competed for on Monday.
