HOSPITAL BOARD.
-, A special meeting of the Cliristchurch Hospital Board was held yes- j terdav afternoon* present — Messrs G. , Payling (chairman), J. Wolfe, C. Alh- ' son, W. M'Millan, J. H. Davison, H. < J. Horrell, T. Gapes, 0. H. Winny, S. Harris and W. Dunlop. The resignation of Dr Withers, as- . sistant house-surgeon, was received. A letter was read from Dr Valintine, Inspector of Hospitals, stating . that a conference of representatives of : Hospital Boards would be held in Wel- , lington in June to consider proposed , amendments to the. Hospit-al Institu- < tions Act. ,'■'.• j i It was decided, on the chairman s suggestion, that cr^ies of the Bill ; should be supplied to members of the Board, and that a committee should ; ibe set up to consider suggestions. The medioal superintendent of the , Dunedin Hospital wrote, stating. that ; he agreed with the suggestion that ; nurses should go through four years ' training. A letter from the Welling- , ton Hospital authorities to the same effect was received. The chairman j said that when the by-laws were al- . tered it could ;be provided that new ■ probationers should sign for four, years * instead of two. Discussion was post- i poned until the by-laws were Tevised. ' Professor R. J. Soott wrote, submit- , ting a report on lighting and heating ; the Hospital. The report was referred . to a committee set up to deal with the ■■ subject for a report. The following officers were appointed to the honorary medical staff :—Sutgeons, Drs Talbot and Westenra. physicians, Drs Mills and Duncan ; opthalmic surgeons, Drs Stevenson and Manning; masseur, Mr F. A. Hornibrook; bacteriologist, Dr Louisson.
